Lotto
Numbers drawn on Monday 10th August were 11,18,19 and 20. There was no jackpot winner (€6,300) €20 draw winners: Rachel Murray, John Walsh, Scarlett Moe Farrell, Paddy Geary and Joe Ahearne. Next week’s jackpot is €6,450 and the draw will be on Monday 17th August. Lotto tickets are on sale from all promoters and online. Déise Development Draw
Déise Development Draw resumes on 26th August. Shamrocks have tickets available from Anne O’ Keefe or online. This is a good fundraiser for both the club and county.
Results
Intermediate Championship Quarter-Final Shamrocks 0-25 to 2-16 Ardmore. Our intermediates enjoyed a deserved victory after an exciting encounter with Ardmore in Fraher Field on Saturday. This was probably our best display in quite some time and it was great that the performance was in the knock-out stages of the championship. Shamrocks had qualified straight for the intermediate semi-finals in 2016 after we topped our group in the league stages that year. It is great to reach the semi-final in 2020 following a quarter-final win. Shamrocks made a great start to the game with some really well worked and well taken points. Ed Lonergan, Joe Leahy, Shane Roche, Colm Roche (0-02) and Billy Hynes all chipping in with points during the first 15 minutes, while Colm Roche (0-04) was also excellent from placed balls. After 15 minutes, Shamrocks led by 5 points on a score 0-11 to 0-06. However, Ardmore came more into the game after this and just before half-time they got a goal to leave the teams level at the break. From the 15th to the 30th minutes Shamrocks only managed 3 pts, all from play from JP Lucey, Shane Roche and Joe Leahy. It was disappointing for Shamrocks not to be in the lead at half-time having played so well for most of the half. Again Shamrocks started the second half really brightly with Colm Roche continuing to be on target with the free and Padraig Hynes adding 2 more points from play. After 45 minutes Shamrocks led by 0-21 to 1-14. The following 20 minutes (a lot of time had to be added for injuries and stoppages) were tense and tight, Colm Roche added 4 more points in this final quarter 2 from play and 2 from placed balls. Ardmore made it a nervy finish for the Shamrocks supporters with a late goal from a free. In the end Shamrocks had a well deserved 3 point victory after a great team performance. Junior C Hurling Championship round 3 Shamrocks 1-09 to 1-17 Stradbally. Our Junior C team bowed out of the championship after a disappointing defeat to Stradbally on Sunday. Shamrocks were unable to make home advantage count and just could never reach the same heights as the team did in the previous round against Ardmore. Stradbally started the brighter but Shamrocks did manage to pull level after about 10 minutes or so, it was 4 pts a piece. Then Stradbally took over again and Shamrocks conceded an unfortunate goal after Sean O’ Neill blocked the initial shot but the sliotar rebounded off the leg of Shamrocks defender Martin Delaney into the net. Just before half-time Chris Murphy struck for goal with a superb 21 metre free to keep Shamrocks in the game. Stradbally led by 4 pts at half-time. Stradbally dominated the second half and won out convincing winners on a score of 1-17 to 1-09. Subs used Seamus Tobin for Richie Murphy (h-t inj), James Walsh for Conor Goulding and Tim Lenihan. Thanks to Liam Dalton, Kieran Ahearne and Mike Leahy for looking after the team. While it was disappointing not to reach the knock-out stages, it was great for the team to get to play 3 competitive matches in 2020 when it didn’t look possible a few months ago.
Fixtures and Important Note – Ticket Only
Another massive weekend ahead for our intermediate hurlers as they will play the Western Intermediate championship semi-final. Shamrocks v Ballyduff Upper Intermediate Hurling semi-final this Sunday 15th August @ 2pm in Fraher Field. Please note due to Covid-19 restrictions on crowd sizes at games there will be ticket only entrance on Sunday. The club will have a limited number of tickets available for the fixture. Ring Pádraig Tobin on 087 6549201 (no messaging please) to order a ticket. Preference for tickets will be given to paid up club members and there may have to be a draw. Strictly one ticket per member. Deadline for ordering tickets is 6pm Wednesday.
