Result
Shamrocks qualified for Lawlors Hotel Junior A Western Championship Final following a hard earned victory over Affane in Fraher Field on Friday night 18th September. The final score was 3-10 to 0-11. Affane had the aid of the breeze during the first half but it was Shamrocks who were very quick off the blocks with a very early Chris Murphy goal. Affane replied with two points and then Shane Roche scored Shamrocks’ first point of the game. Affane reeled off the next three points (two from frees) to put them in the lead for the first time. Colm Roche replied with a free to level the game just before the water break. The score was Shamrocks 1-02 to 0-05 Affane. Scores were tit for tat over the next fifteen minutes of the half with both teams scoring 3 points each in that period. Colm Roche got two of those from frees while Adam Crawford scored Shamrocks’ last point of the half. The score at half-time was Shamrocks 1-05 to 0-08 Affane. However Affane would have been very disappointed to have been only level at half time as they had played the better football during the half and missed a glorious goal chance. With the aid of the wind Shamrocks gave a much improved performance in the second half. Colm Roche scored a 45, followed by a Billy Hynes point and then Colm Roche scored Shamrocks’ second goal of the game. At the water break in the second half Shamrocks now had a 5 point lead 2-07 to 0-08. Billy Hynes put his first free over the bar, Affane replied with a point but the game was effectively over when Colm Roche netted Shamrock’s third goal.
