Minor Football Co. Final, Cois Bhride 3-13 Ballyduff 1-2.
Cois Bhride won the Div 3 Minor Football county final in some style last Saturday in Cappoquin when they overcame a gallant Ballyduff team to win emphatically in the end. Facing the stiff breeze in the first half, Cois Bhride took a while to get going, and early points from Tom Dalton were matched by Ballyduff who were more than a match in the early stages. Then one of our younger players, Stephen Roche kicked a goal and two points from play to give Cois Bhride the kick start they needed, and further goals from Conor O’ Keeffe and Tom Dalton saw Cois Bhride lead at the half time break by 3-4 to 1-1. The second half saw Cois Bhride take control with the wind at their backs, and they outscored the villagers by 9 points to 1 with no fewer than six different scorers. A feature of this half was three excellent long range points from the boot of Mark Dalton, with Conor O’ Keeffe, Jack Murphy, Jake Chambers, Cian Hurley, and Tom Dalton all finding the range. This was a fine display from this young team, captain Eoghan Lenehan leading by example from centre back, and others to catch the eye were Stephen Roche, Jake Chambers, goalie Cathal Hunt, Conor O’ Keeffe, and particularly young Shane Martin at wing forward who showed great intelligence and composure on the ball for the full hour. Well done to all concerned. Panel; Cathal Hunt, Alan Hurley, Darragh Spillane, Stephen Roche (1-2), Eoghan Lenehan, Cian Hurley (0-1), Mark Dalton (0-3), Padraig Hynes, Jake Chambers (0-1), Shane Martin, Tom Dalton (1-3), Conor O’ Keeffe (1-1), Jack Murphy (0-2), Eolann Costello, Ciaran Lenehan, Jack McDonnell, Ian Martin, Jake Henley, Cian O’ Brien, and Shane Cronin.
