JFC, Shamrocks 2-12, An Sean Phobal 2-9.
Shamrocks footballers booked their place in the semi final of the Western Junior Football championship last Saturday in sunny Ardmore with a hard fought win over a gallant Old Parish side who battled to the end. With a strong wind advantage in the first half, we got off to a strong start with two points each from brothers Billy and Edward Hynes sandwiching a fine goal from Shane Roche to give us a 1-4 to nil lead. Then Old Parish struck for a well taken goal which was slightly against the run of play, and we traded points from Edward and Billy and one from Stevie Lucey to leave the half time score 1-7 to 1-2. In truth we should have been further ahead but some errant passing and poor shooting, along with a disallowed goal from Edward Lonergan, which was harshly ruled a square ball, meant the second half would be anything but easy. However we started the second half with some of our best football, and some excellent points from John Paul Lucey, Stevie Lucey, and two from Billy Hynes left us 8 points ahead. It was then that Old Parish came to life, and gradually clawed back our lead. Then they struck for another goal, and with time running out, they levelled the match. One last attack including a great run by Chris Murphy saw Edward Lonergan find the net with virtually the last kick of the game to give us a dramatic win which I think on balance, we deserved. Though we played some good football throughout the match, we gave away the ball far too often from poor passing, and we were a bit fortunate to score the last goal. We will need to improve if we want to retain our Western title. But well done to all the players and management team and selectors for a great win. Panel, Richie Murphy, Padraig Roche, Tommy O’ Donovan, Brian Harnedy, Jason Ahearne, Padraig Ahearne, Adam Crawford, John Paul Lucey (0-2), Stevie Lucey (0-2), Shane Roche (1-0), Edward Lonergan (1-0), Chris Murphy, Edward Hynes (0-3), Billy Hynes (0-5), Kieran Crawford, Ivan O’ Neill, Liam Motherway, Joe Leahy, Alan Kelly, Michael Lucey, Shane Harnedy, John O’ Donovan, Ciaran O’ Keeffe, Tim Lenehan, Tom Roche.

Shamrocks CLG would like to sympathise with the family and friends of Ann Flanagan, Garryduff, Youghal, who passed away last Thursday. Eamonn and Ger both played for the Shamrocks, and Oliver is a great supporter of the club. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam.
