Junior Football Championship.
West Junior A Football Championship, Shamrocks 2-9, Geraldines 0-6.
Shamrocks got their 2024 football championship up and running with a 9 point win over Geraldines in Ballyduff last Sunday. The first half was a turgid affair with scores very hard to come by. Shamrocks were on top but unable to convert their chances and it wasn’t until the 17 th minute that a great move was finished off expertly to the net by Edward Lonergan who
was one of our best players on the day. The half time score was 1-1 to 0-2.

Rustiness was on show for both teams in the first half. Thankfully Shamrocks got their act together in the second half starting off with points from Billy Hynes, Edward and Kieran Crawford, conceding just one point. Then Stevie Lucey, who had an excellent game all through, broke through and expertly slotted home our second goal to put us into a commanding lead. We traded points with Geraldines before finishing off with 3 points from Billy and Tom Dalton to round off a good second half and
finish on a scoreline of 2-9 to 0-6. We had a few stand out performances from Stevie Lucey, Edward Lonergan, Liam Motherway and Ciarán Lenehan who was making his debut, but for me Eoghan Lenehan was our man of the match, excellent all through. Manager Jimmy O’Neill though happy with the result said we have to knock out the rustiness before our next match against Stradbally next Sunday at 1pm in Colligan.
Panel; Bernie Kelleher, Mikey O Neill, Ivan O’Neill, Stephen Roche,
Eoghan Lenehan, Shane Roche, Adam Crawford, Pádraig Hynes, Billy
Hynes (0-3), Tom Dalton (0-2), Kieran Crawford (0-2), Liam Motherway,
Edward Lonergan (1-2), Stevie Lucey (1-0), Ciarán Lenehan, Edward
O’Neill, Kelvyn O Farrell, Ciaran Hunt, Michael Lucey, Brian Harnedy.
