Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship V Dunhill
It has been 25 years since these sides last faced each other in a championship game where we historically won an Intermediate County Title, and fortunately The Shamrocks supporters were able to leave Lemybrien on Saturday in similar spirits. After a defeat on the opening weekend, a statement of intent was needed by our players and that’s exactly what happened where we stamped our authority on the game from the throw in. Padraig Hynes started from where he left off from the previous week landing scores from play and frees. Tom Dalton and Shane Roche (whose fathers played prominent roles 25 years ago) ably assisted him making sure we dominated the middle third. Goals from Padraig and Shane gave us a healthy cushion going into the break where we led 2-12 to 0-6. As expected, Dunhill who have played in the senior ranks for the last 2 seasons pressed hard for a comeback in the early stages of the second half and managed to narrow our lead. However, points from Padraig, Tom, Ed Lonergan and Stephen Lucy made sure we always had breathing space heading into the final minutes. Ed raised another green flag for us towards the end after great play from Sean Meaney and Chris Murphy. Special mention to Goalkeeper John O’Donovan who is a survivor from the 1999 team who had a great game along with his full back line. Full Time Score Shamrocks 3-18 Dunhill 0-15
We now face Ballysaggart in our final group game this Saturday evening in Fraher Field.

Junior Hurling Championship v Clashmore/Kinsalebeg
Our Juniors qualified for a Western Semi Final after an 11 point win over Clashmore/Kinsalebeg last Friday evening in Ardmore. Despite playing into a stiff breeze, points from Kelvyn O’Farrell and Jamie Murphy gave us an early lead. Clashmore settled and were level midway through the first half. Kelvyn finished the half strongly scoring 1-02 and it was a lead we would never relinquish. We got off to a great start in the second half, when Bernie Kelliher set up Jamie for an early goal to put us firmly in the driving seat. Kelvyn aided by his brother Keegan kept the scoreboard ticking over us. Bernie finished off a fine display at the edge of the square by raising a green flag for the last score of the game. Though Kelvyn was the standout player with 1-05, the backs played very well as a unit and never let Clashmore get a grip on the game. We now have a semi final in 2 weeks time.
