Result
For the third year in a row disappointment was our lot as we lost the county final on Sunday last. The final score was Roanmore 1-10 to 0-2 Shamrocks. It was a comprehensive defeat. The most disappointing aspect for players, management and Shamrocks supporters was that the players didn’t perform to anywhere near their normal high levels. Shamrocks had the aid of a strong wind in the first half and Edward Lonergan was unlucky to hit the crossbar with a very early chance, a goal here might have boosted Shamrocks confidence and possibly rocked Roanmore but it wasn’t to be and we’ll never know if it would have affected the game. Roanmore deservedly led at half time by 0-4 to 0-2 as they carried and moved the ball well against the wind. Shamrocks struggled with the wet and windy conditions and we regularly lost control of the football when we had it in our possession. The second half was always going to be an uphill struggle and so it proved with Shamrocks failing to score in the second half. The result and performance is a very tough one to take following all the hard work and preparation put in by the players and management this year. Thanks to the players for their dedication and effort and hopefully all of the panel will return again next year to give it another go. A huge thank you to the management team of Dan Casey, Noel Crowley, Declan Butler and Seamus Tobin for their excellent preparation and training. Finally well done to Peter Queally and Roanmore on their victory. Please see the full match report elsewhere.
