Junior Hurling Championship Semi Final
Hard luck to our Junior Hurlers who were beaten by a strong Melleray Team last Friday. It was a great performance that fell short which wasn’t made easier by having players unavailable due to injury. Players and management can be proud of their campaign and we wish Melleray the best of luck in the final.
Our Team on the night was Liam Murphy, Eoin Roche, Brian Harnedy, Shane Harnedy, Jason Ahearne, Tom O Donovan, Ciaran Hunt, Ciaran Lenihan, Cathal Hunt, Kelvyn O Farrel, Tomas O Neill, Edward O’Neill, Keegan O Farrell, Bernie Kelliher, Sean Murphy, Alan Kelly, Martin Delaney, Sean Casey.

Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship V Ballysaggart
They say goals win matches and unfortunately we were at the receiving end of that statement on Saturday evening in our final group game against Ballysaggart. The opening quarter of the game was as expected, with both sides not giving much to their opposition. Points from Padraig, Tom, Ed and Chris made sure there was little between the sides. A goal midway through the first half gave Ballysaggart breathing space but we responded well through Shane and Ivan. Another goal conceded was responded with minors from Padraig, Tom and Steven and we trailed at half time by 2-12 to 0-9. We started the second half well with an opportunistic goal by Padraig and further points by Ed and Tom. However Ballysaggart being led by their intercounty men, responded with goals and points making it difficult to narrow the gap sufficiently. As always our lads responded and points from Tom, Ivan and Padraig kept our lads going to the final whistle. In the end Ballysaggart were fully deserving of their victory where they won 4-21 to 1-16. Despite being down a few regulars, we played well in a lot of patches in the game. Another thing which will please management was there was a large spread of scorers on our part. With the group stages now complete, we now play Clashmore/Kinsalebeg in the county quarter final in 2 weeks. Team: L Murphy, Stephen Roche, Ivan O’Neill, Mike Lucey, Mike O’Neill, Shane Roche, Billy Hynes, Sean Meaney, Tom Dalton, Liam Motherway, Padraig Hynes, Ed Lonergan, Chris Murphy, Steven Lucy, Kieran Crawford

Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship V Dunhill
It has been 25 years since these sides last faced each other in a championship game where we historically won an Intermediate County Title, and fortunately The Shamrocks supporters were able to leave Lemybrien on Saturday in similar spirits. After a defeat on the opening weekend, a statement of intent was needed by our players and that’s exactly what happened where we stamped our authority on the game from the throw in. Padraig Hynes started from where he left off from the previous week landing scores from play and frees. Tom Dalton and Shane Roche (whose fathers played prominent roles 25 years ago) ably assisted him making sure we dominated the middle third. Goals from Padraig and Shane gave us a healthy cushion going into the break where we led 2-12 to 0-6. As expected, Dunhill who have played in the senior ranks for the last 2 seasons pressed hard for a comeback in the early stages of the second half and managed to narrow our lead. However, points from Padraig, Tom, Ed Lonergan and Stephen Lucy made sure we always had breathing space heading into the final minutes. Ed raised another green flag for us towards the end after great play from Sean Meaney and Chris Murphy. Special mention to Goalkeeper John O’Donovan who is a survivor from the 1999 team who had a great game along with his full back line. Full Time Score Shamrocks 3-18 Dunhill 0-15
We now face Ballysaggart in our final group game this Saturday evening in Fraher Field.

Junior Hurling Championship v Clashmore/Kinsalebeg
Our Juniors qualified for a Western Semi Final after an 11 point win over Clashmore/Kinsalebeg last Friday evening in Ardmore. Despite playing into a stiff breeze, points from Kelvyn O’Farrell and Jamie Murphy gave us an early lead. Clashmore settled and were level midway through the first half. Kelvyn finished the half strongly scoring 1-02 and it was a lead we would never relinquish. We got off to a great start in the second half, when Bernie Kelliher set up Jamie for an early goal to put us firmly in the driving seat. Kelvyn aided by his brother Keegan kept the scoreboard ticking over us. Bernie finished off a fine display at the edge of the square by raising a green flag for the last score of the game. Though Kelvyn was the standout player with 1-05, the backs played very well as a unit and never let Clashmore get a grip on the game. We now have a semi final in 2 weeks time.

All Ireland Final Success
We would like to congratulate Deirdre Roche and all the Waterford Minor ladies footballers on winning the All Ireland last Saturday in Kinnegad after beating Armagh 6-08 to 5-10. A fantastic achievement. Deridre now joins her cousin Colm as Shamrocks players with an All Ireland Minor medal.

Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship
Our Intermediates got their championship up and running last Saturday evening in Fraher Field against Ballygunner. The first half was fought closely by both teams where both free takers were kept busy. Padraig Hynes being exceptional from placed balls. A Ballygunner goal midway through the first half gave them a slight cushion heading into half time where they led 1-10 to 0-9 but from overall play there was very little if anything between the two sides. Unfortunately for us, after the break was a different story where Ballygunner took control of the game. Two quickfire goals and a handful of points without reply was always going to make a comeback difficult. Never going to throw in the towel, a Shane Roche goal and points from Padraig and the impressive Chris Murphy when introduced helped our side of the scoreboard tick over. However Ballygunner being Ballygunner kept their impressive momentum up until the final whistle and ran out convincing winners. As is the nature of the club championship and the quick turnaround between matches, there is no time to lick our wounds and we face Dunhill in the next round in Kilrossanty on Saturday evening.
Please come along to support the team.
Team: John O’Donovan, Stephen Roche, Ivan O’Neill, Mike Lucey, Mike O’Neill, Shane Roche, Billy Hynes, Adam Crawford, Tom Dalton, Kieran Crawford, Padraig Hynes, Ed Lonergan, Eoghan Lenihan, Steven Lucey, Kelvyn O’Farrell, Liam Murphy, Sean Meaney, Liam Motherway, Chris Murphy, Adam McSweeney, Ciaran Lenihan, Cathal Hunt, Ciaran Hunt, Eoin Roche, Brian Harnedy, Shane Harnedy

All Ireland Final
The club would like to commiserate with Seamus Harnedy on his side’s nail biting loss with Clare in the All Ireland Final. Seamus’s Dad Sean would have won county titles with the club in 1977,1982 and 1984 in both hurling and football. His cousins Brian and Shane are both long lasting players with our adult teams. Also to selector Brenan Coleman who trained our hurlers in recent years. From a Waterford perspective, seeing how we were narrowly beaten by the All Ireland champions in Ennis, and beat the other All Ireland Finalists in the Munster Championship, should give the new Waterford Management optimism as they head into the 2025 campaign

Junior Hurling Championship.
Our Junior hurlers recorded a great win over Dungarvan in the Junior Championship on Sunday played at Dungarvan GAA grounds. Similar to last week’s game against Ardmore, we played well in the first half and went into halftime with a four point lead. On a score of 2-8 to 1-7. Our first goal was a superb strike from Ciaran Lenihan after a great run down the field by Stephen Roche. Our second coming from Cathal Herlihy after exceptional work rate from Bernie Kelliher on the edge of the square. With the wind at their back in the second half Dungarvan grew more into the game and after raising two more green flags, they led by two points leading into the final minutes. However with Chris Murphy giving the Dungarvan defence all sorts of problems and Kelvyn O’Farrell impressive from both play and placed balls we fought our way back to clinch a deserving victory. Final score Shamrocks 2-18 Dungarvan 3-14. We play Ballysaggart in our final group game on SUnday morning in JFK park at 11.30
Team: Liam Murphy, Shane Harnedy, Brian Harnedy, Ciaran Hunt, Adam McSweeney, Stephen Roche, Eoin Roche, Ciaran Lenihan, Liam Motherway, Kelvyn O’Farrell, Chris Murphy, Cathal Hunt, Keegan O’Farrell, Bernie Kelliher, Cathal Herlihy, Sean Murphy, Alan Kelly, Sean Casey

Junior Hurling Championship
The first championship game for the club took place last Friday evening at JFK Park where our Junior hurlers took on Ardmore. Our lads had the better of the first half where we saw great defending and some well taken scores most notably from Chris Murphy and Kelvyn O’Farrell. Stephen Roche raised a green flag midway through the first half and we entered half time leading on a score of 1-6 to 0-5. Second half was more of the same with some valiant defending by both teams. Like all Ardmore teams, they kept fighting to the very end and the teams were level with less than 10 minutes to go. Ardmore managed to score 2 goals in the space of 3 minutes which swung the game in their favour heading into the closing minutes. However our lads didn’t throw in the towel and managed 1-2  in the last few minutes, the goal coming from Kelvyn. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough by the time Tommy O’Sullivvan blew the full time whistle. Full time score 2-12 to 2-10 Next up is Dungarvan away at 12pm this Sunday.
Team: Tom Goulding, Jason Ahearne, Brian Harnedy, Ciaran Hunt, Adam McSweeney, Ivan O’Neill, Eoin Roche(C), Ciaran Lenihan, Stephen Roche, Chris Murphy, Kelvyn O’Farrell, Cathal Hunt, Cathal Herlihy, Shane Harnedy, Keegan O’ Farrell, Tommy O’Donovan, Sean Murphy, Alan Kelly.

Micheal O’Muircheartaigh RIP
It was with great sadness among the GAA community and far beyond when we learned of the passing of the great Micheál O’Muircheartaigh last week. He was an iconic Gael that will be forever remembered for his amazing legacy to the GAA and Irish culture. In broadcasting, his encyclopaedic knowledge of sport and individual players combined with an unusual turn of phrase, quick one liners and the mix of Gaelige and English made his commentaries unique. Micheál brought everyone into his lair with words and passion and his name will endure through the generations. The Carrauntohil of Irish broadcasting. ‘The stopwatch has stopped’ but his legacy will last the test of time. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
